INSS to Begin August 2026 Retirement Pension Payments on August 25
INSS starts August 2026 retirement pensions and benefits on Aug. 25, with staggered deposits through Sept. 8 based on benefit card digits and payment amount.
Brazil’s National Social Security Institute (INSS) will begin depositing August 2026 retirement pensions, survivor pensions, and other monthly benefits on Monday, August 25, 2026. Payments run through Tuesday, September 8, in a staggered calendar keyed to each beneficiary’s benefit card final digit and whether the monthly amount is at or below the national minimum wage.
Brazilian outlets highlighted the schedule on August 18, 2026 as retirees and pensionistas prepared for the first August deposits. The window opens one week after the July 2026 payment cycle ends on August 7 for beneficiaries whose cards end in 0.
Editor’s note: This article draws on INSS payment-calendar guidance, reporting from CNN Brasil, FDR, and other Brazilian outlets, August 11–18, 2026. Dates follow the official staggered schedule; individual banking delays may apply.
Which benefits are included?
The August 2026 calendar covers recurring INSS payments, including:
- Retirement pensions (aposentadorias) — by age, time of contribution, disability, and related categories
- Survivor pensions (pensões por morte)
- Temporary disability aid (formerly sickness benefit)
- Prison aid (auxílio-reclusão)
- Maternity salary (salário-maternidade)
- Continuous cash benefit (BPC) — the means-tested Benefício de Prestação Continuada
Roughly 40 million Brazilians receive INSS or related social-security transfers each month, making the calendar a household budgeting anchor nationwide.
How INSS sets your payment date
Two rules determine when money lands:
- Benefit amount — Recipients at or below the minimum wage are paid first; those above the floor enter a second wave in early September.
- Final digit of the benefit number — The relevant digit is the penultimate number before the hyphen on the benefit card, not the check digit after it. For example, in 0108-4, the scheduling digit is 8.
The 2026 minimum wage is R$ 1,621 per month. INSS uses that floor to split the calendar.
August 2026 payment calendar
Up to one minimum wage (R$ 1,621)
| Final digit (before hyphen) | Payment date |
|---|---|
| 1 | August 25, 2026 (Monday) |
| 2 | August 26, 2026 |
| 3 | August 27, 2026 |
| 4 | August 28, 2026 |
| 5 | August 31, 2026 |
| 6 | September 1, 2026 |
| 7 | September 2, 2026 |
| 8 | September 3, 2026 |
| 9 | September 4, 2026 |
| 0 | September 8, 2026 |
Above one minimum wage
| Final digits (before hyphen) | Payment date |
|---|---|
| 1 and 6 | September 1, 2026 |
| 2 and 7 | September 2, 2026 |
| 3 and 8 | September 3, 2026 |
| 4 and 9 | September 4, 2026 |
| 5 and 0 | September 8, 2026 |
The September 8 date for final 0 reflects Brazil’s Independence Day holiday on September 7, when banks and public agencies do not operate. Weekends are also skipped in the rolling schedule.
July payments still winding down
Beneficiaries waiting on July 2026 funds should note that cycle does not overlap with August deposits.
July payments began July 27 for cards ending in 1 and continued through August 7 for cards ending in 0. Anyone still owed July money should verify status in official channels before assuming August timing applies.
Once July closes, the August cycle starts fresh on August 25 for the lowest-income group.
How to check your deposit
INSS recommends these steps:
- Meu INSS app or portal — Confirm benefit number, linked bank account, and expected payment date.
- Benefit card digit — Match the penultimate digit to the tables above.
- Bank account — Deposits go to the registered account; updates require INSS processing time.
- Banking delay — Credits may appear one business day after INSS initiates the transfer, depending on the institution.
For questions or missing payments after the scheduled date, beneficiaries can open a service request through Meu INSS or call INSS on 135.
Why the staggered model matters
INSS has used digit-based staggering for years to spread administrative load and reduce simultaneous pressure on the banking system. For households, the practical effect is predictable but uneven: two neighbors with different card endings may receive August pensions two weeks apart, even when benefit types are similar.
Recipients above the minimum wage consistently wait until September, regardless of digit — a pattern that shapes rent, medicine, and utility planning for pensioners whose checks exceed R$ 1,621.
Discussion
1. Does paying above-minimum pensions a full week later than floor-level benefits create real hardship?
Some retirees above R$ 1,621 argue the two-tier gap widens cash-flow stress; others say a fixed early-September block is easier to plan around than a mid-August spread. Where do you see the balance?
2. How do you budget when your INSS date shifts because of holidays or weekends?
September’s 0 digit landing on September 8 instead of September 7 is routine, but it can still collide with bills due on the first of the month. Do you build buffer days, or adjust due dates with creditors?
If you receive INSS — or support someone who does — how closely do you track the digit-based calendar each month?
